A couple of weeks ago, some members of our team went out to meet Connor and his family to award them with an overnight stay in the Angel Trust Treehouse at Ramside Hall Hotel. Connor was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2017, when he was only 13 years old. Connor was top of his class and loved playing rugby for his school and for a local team. During his treatment, Connor suffered many side effects of the chemotherapy. He developed appendicitis and had to have his appendix removed; he developed sepsis and had to spend days in ICU; he developed, and still has, peripheral neuropathy which prevents brain signal to the legs and feet from working; he ended up in a wheelchair and had to be carried upstairs by his parents; he developed a blood clot on his brain, which resulted in daily injections for three months. When the doctors thought the blood clot had gone and continued with treatment, it returned and then spread. Connor had to have injections of blood thinners for a year, then he ended up in ICU again, as they had to control the thinners to prevent a stroke. Connor's mam, Jocelyn, said "Throughout all this, Connor never complained once. His treatment lasted for 3.5 years and he rang the bell for end of treatment on 16th February 2021. He hated being in a wheelchair and vowed that he would be back up walking. He put in the hard work and wearing splints, and is now able to walk unaided. He is so determined and positive, he is our hero.". We hope you enjoy your stay and have some much-needed relaxation time with your family along with a game of golf with your dad!
